WebFeb 13, 2024 · Chediak Higashi syndrome (CHS) is an autosomal recessive disorder that is characterized by easy bruising, oculocutaneous albinism and recurrent pyogenic infections. The defect is caused by a mutation in the lysosomal trafficking regulator protein that leads to decreased phagocytosis and predisposition to recurrent bacterial infection. WebChediak-Higashi syndrome is passed down through families (inherited). It is an autosomal recessive disease. This means that both parents are carriers of a non-working copy of the gene. Each parent must pass their non-working gene to the child for them to show symptoms of the disease. Defects have been found in the LYST (also called CHS1) gene.
